His Excellency Mr. Ranjan Mathai, Ambassador of India to Qatar, was his usual self while addressing the gathering. Here are some of the highlights of his speech -
  • He thanked the Emir of Qatar for all the support to the school and the Indian community and also praised the role Qatar is playing not only in the affairs of the Gulf but also the world. Sighted the examples of Doha WTO round of talks and the role Al Jazeera played during the recent Afghan challenge.
  • His interest in education continues as a life-long student and also as a parent of school going children
  • Principals have the onerous responsibility of imparting social consciousness beyond curriculum
  • Curriculum and methodology have to keep with change
  • Quoting Elliot he said: "Where is the Knowledge, We have lost in Information; Where is the Wisdom, We have lost in Knowledge"
  • He commended the schools as a centre for learning not only for the Indian community but also for other communities and nationalities
  • Wished the very best for the conference and its future endeavours

Mr. Ashok Ganguly, Chairman, CBSE extolled the Principals to keep up the good work and said -
  • He admired the efforts of the Principals in extending all educational avenues to the students here and also for the commitment to knowledge and advancement of learning
  • The need to revisit the content and the process of our education system due to emergence of knowledge society
  • The need to face the challenges of globalisation, technological advancements, social inequalities, upholding democracy and human rights, multiculturalism, declining moral values and last but not least the ever changing environment which brings in uncertainties
  • The need to implement whatever we plan, that is one major challenge. Resistances will be galore from several quarters, but we need to go ahead in
    • Imparting language skills
    • Improving pedagogy and methodology
    • Scientific training for teachers, individuals on subjects and other matters
    • Teachers empowerment programmes like the one we had in IIMA
    • Work and employment, building team skills and mobility
    • Developing right attitude of openness to ideas, thoughts, culture and tolerance
    • Evaluation should go beyond cognition involving hand, head and heart (Physical, intellectual and consciousness)
    • Fostering education and industry interaction
  • Success in future depends on the networking the educationists have to do with technologists and organizational developers as the growth in technology will be unabated bringing in unprecedented developments
  • Education cannot be isolated and we need to interact with all stakeholders in the society to develop leaderships, environment and, attract and retain talent
  • Highlighting the future,
    • Bio-technology is being introduced into the curriculum,
    • Maths Olympiad has taken a new shape with country winning 8 golds
    • National Inter school quiz and IT Olympiads coming up
    • The syllabus of class 9 and 11 being revised
  • While closing the speech that it is the responsibility of every educationist here to reduce the load on children and asked why can't we make sure that students till class 2 carry only a tiffin box to school and nothing else?
