Inaugural Ceremony
The four-day conference in Doha got off to a flying start with an
inaugural ceremony that was graced by dignitaries both from India
and the state of Qatar, along with the Principals of over 45 CBSE
schools in the gulf.
The chief guest for the occasion was H.E. Mr. Hamad Ali Al Sulaiti,
Director of private education, Govt. of Qatar, and the guests of honour
were Mr. Ashok Ganguly, Chairman, CBSE along with H.E. Mr. Ranjan
Mathai, Ambassador of India to Qatar.
Others who graced the dais were Mr. Ainsley Edgar, the Principal,
Ideal Indian School, the host; Dr. Farooq Ahmad Wasil, the Chairman
of the Council and is also the Principal of OOEHS, Sharjah, Mr. V
P K Abdulla, President, Ideal Indian School management committee,
and Mr. M M Joshi, the Secretary of the Council and also the Principal
of the Indian School, Muscat, Oman.
The ceremony started off with invocation from holy Quran, followed
by the national anthems of Qatar and India. Children of Ideal Indian
school rendered melodiously the song 'Touch my heart'. The Principals
of various schools of the Council felicitated all dignitaries on the
dais. |

Mr. Ainsley Edgar, the Principal, Ideal Indian
School and the host, welcomed the guests and said that -
- Schools are doing their best
in inculcating the values which are of prime importance
to shape the character and personality of the future generation
- We need to also keep pace with
the globalization and address the same.

Mr. V. P. K. Abdulla, who also has been awarded 'the Best Citizen's
Award' by the state of Qatar for his contribution to the society,
said -
- Education is an instrument in
national development
- We need to address the challenges
the country is facing like population growth and the resulting
social dynamics
- Schools should get ready to bring
in changes to face the new set of demands of the knowledge
based society of the third millennium, to provide outstanding
human resources
- Infuse life into the curriculum
to take care of context and developments
- Moral values and value education
are the need of the hour
- There is also a need to reduce
the load of the children without reducing the impact
- He thanked His Excellency the
Emir of Qatar for all the support.

Dr. Farooq Ahmad Wasil, the Chairman of the
Council of gulf CBSE affiliated schools addressed the gathering by
saying -
- In the context of the unprecedented
developments around us, the Council is addressing the global
needs
- Let us ponder on what is needed
- Today's economy is
that of economy of ideas
- Brain power is taking
over from Land, Labour and Kapital
- Change is favouring
the young, and we all need to be young in assimilating
thoughts and ideas
- India's challenge
is to bridge the gap between the education haves
and have-nots. Education should be -
- Made affordable
and relevant
- A living fountain
and not a static reservoir.

- "The Gulf Council is bracing for all the change,
he said, by outlining the achievement"
- Establishing of two nodal centres for evaluation
of Social studies (Dubai) and English (Muscat)
for class X in the gulf
- Expecting to have a similar arrangement for
class XII too very soon
- Mathematics Olympiad is being held under the
national Olympiad
- Students have been participating in the national
school athletic and swimming championships.
